We had an amazing day on the water! The day started off light (or light by San Francisco standards) at about 12 knots. After about an hour and a half, the wind had picked up to about 20 and was challenging, but what we came here for! Because of the wind and waves, it's hard to run drills so we did practice races all day. All the NSST sailors have learned to bear off in big wind and waves, which is a big deal here. There were also a lot less capsized and submarining boats today, which was good.
At about 2pm today, both AC45s came out and were weaving through the optis. It was pretty epic. Those boats are amazing, and it's awesome and terrifying when they're coming towards you. At one point, one of the boats got so close to Andrew, he could have almost reached out and touched it. There's a picture on Sailing Anarchy of some of the kids sailing by Oracle http://www.sailinganarchy.com/fringe/2011/ac%20paige%20opti.jpg. We have a few pictures that we're going to post soon, videos will come next week.
