A short clip about the BC Opti Champs in Comox from Shaw TV!
Pumpkin Bowl was the last BC Sailing Circuit event of the year, and was hosted at WVYC. We had stellar weather and fantastic volunteers. Our sailors had some fabulous races, and many of our sailors placed in the top-10 in their fleets (impressive in the 50-boat opti fleet!). Jack won the overall optis, and was followed by Edward in 3rd place in blue fleet. Ciaran was 5th place in red. Also racing in red fleet were Ryan and Cisco. Sailing in the blue fleet were Alec, Andrew, Kevin, Emily, Sierra and Mountain, and Diego raced in white.
NOR and registration are posted for Pumpkin Bowl. Early registration is open until October 13.

A reminder that the fall parent information meeting will be September 8 at 6:30pm at WVYC. All sailors should have at least one parent representative at this meeting.
The NSST sailors had a fantastic 4 days in Gimli, Manitoba at Sail West. We were part of a huge BC team, it was great to see so many west coast sailors at the event. Ryan, Andrew, Cisco and Diego sailed optis, and Chris and Fillah raced radials. This was the lead-up to the Opti Canadians for Cisco, and Youth Nationals for Chris and Fillah; both those events will be in Nova Scotia later this month.
The NSST sailors had an excellent week in San Fran. The first day of the regatta was windy! We had gusts of 30 knots, and everyone spent a lot of time bailing. It was a tough day. The next 2 days were a little lighter, with about 22 knots on Saturday and 15 on Sunday. It's called the Heavy Weather Regatta for a reason!
Today was another great day. It was our last day of training, and all the sailors were doing awesome! It's great to see how much they've learned over the past few days. We worked on gybing today, and there was way less capsizing and submarining than there was over the past couple days. We definitely had the most wind today, getting up to almost 30 knots when we were up by the bridge. Tomorrow we have our day off, racing starts on Friday!

We had an amazing day on the water! The day started off light (or light by San Francisco standards) at about 12 knots. After about an hour and a half, the wind had picked up to about 20 and was challenging, but what we came here for! Because of the wind and waves, it's hard to run drills so we did practice races all day. All the NSST sailors have learned to bear off in big wind and waves, which is a big deal here. There were also a lot less capsized and submarining boats today, which was good.
